Europe Mapping: We will be playing a quick round of the Europe Mapping game.

Model Government Project: We will be starting the Model Government Project in class today. Remember, you must complete the packet before starting your slideshow. 

Due Date: Your Model Government Projects will be due the class before Christmas. This means that you have five class periods to complete this project

Ancient Governments: We will be doing a recap of the different types of government and the places we saw these types of government in history.
Athenian Democracy
Spartan Oligarchy
Roman Monarchy
Roman Tyranny
Roman Republic

Students will understand the basic forms of government and where they came from. 

Circle: Would you rather be able to detect any lie your hear or get away with any lie you tell? Which type of government that we've talked about so far is the most effective?


World Issues: You will have ten minutes to work on your World Issues Projects.

Ancient Greek Governments: In this unit we will be focusing on the Ancient Greeks and Ancient Romans and be looking at the different forms of government that they used. Today, we will be looking at the Monarchy in Thebes. We will also be discussing what a Tyrant or Tyranny is as well as a Republic. 

We will be talking about:
Monarchy vs Tyranny
Kingdom vs Empire
King vs Emperor
King/Emperor vs Dictator

We will then be talking about a Republic and the restraints it puts on a government.

Students will understand the basic forms of government and where they came from. 

Circle: What is the number 1 thing you are asking for on Christmas this year?

World Issues: You will have ten minutes to work on your World Issues Projects.

Ancient Greek Governments: In this unit we will be focusing on the Ancient Greeks and Ancient Romans and be looking at the different forms of government that they used. Today, we will be looking at what an Oligarchy is and how it looked in Ancient Sparta.

- 2 Kings control the military.
- 5 elected officials carried out the laws. These men had the authority to prosecute court cases.
- 30 elected men sat on the Council of Elders. You had to be 60 or older. They were on this for life. 
- All 30 or older citizens were part of the assembly.
- You could not vote unless you owned property.

You will be writing a definition for Oligarchy in your notes on classroom.

We will end class by reading this article.

Circle: What is the worst injury you've ever had?

World Issues: You will have fifteen minutes to work on your World Issues Projects.

Europe Map Studying: We will be playing the Europe Map Game to help study for the upcoming quiz.

Ancient Greek Governments: In this unit we will be focusing on the Ancient Greeks and Ancient Romans and be looking at the different forms of government that they used. Today, we will be finishing up on Athenian Democracy. We will specifically be thinking about the ways that our democracy is similar and different to the Athenians. Then, if we have time, we will start talking about the Spartan Oligarchy.

The Steps:
1- Watching recap video on Athenian Democracy.
2- Discussing similarities and differences between Athenian Democracy and United States Democracy.
3- Read article in the Boston Globe on using lotteries.
4- Write paragraph in classroom on lottery elections.

Move on to introduce Spartan Oligarchy hierarchy.
