Thursday 9/24/20 - Tuesday 9/29/20

Learning Target: Students will be working to create a classroom learning community. Students will be working to get better at essential reading, writing, and analyzing skills.

QOD: What are the three main branches of the United States government?

Circle: Who is your favorite artist to listen to?

Maps: Here are examples of the three main types of maps we will be working with this year. I will be explaining what these types of maps are, and why we use them. Students will then be exploring these maps and trying to figure out what information they can get from them.

We will be talking about historical maps as well and talking about what we can understand by looking at these maps.

Parts of a Map: We will be having an in class conversation about the different parts of a map. What makes a good map? What makes a bad map?

Create a Map: Students will be doing their best to create a population or snowfall map of Maine. Snowfall legend will be 0-50, 50-100, 100-150, 150+. Population will be 0-25, 25-100, 100-250, 250+.

News Source Evaluation: There is an assignment posted on Google Classroom titled "News Source Evaluation." Your job is to complete this assignment during this class period. All instructions for this assignment will be on Google Classroom.

Maine Maps: Finish your special purpose map that you started creating last class.

Circle: What's the farthest you've ever been away from Oxford Hills?

Student Interviews: Students will be interviewing a partner and reporting out their partners answers to the following questions.

-What two radio stations do you listen to in the car the most?

-As of now, what do you think you want to do when you grow up?

-What is your favorite holiday?

-Do you consider yourself to be an introvert or an extrovert?

Friday 9/18/20 & Monday 9/21/20

 Learning Target: Students will be working to create a classroom learning community. Students will be working to get better at essential reading, writing, and analyzing skills.

QOD: In 1963, who delivered the famous "I have a dream" speech?

Circle: How many years have you lived in the school district for? If you're not from here, where did you come from?

Classroom Rules: Students will be creating posters to be hung up around the room with our classroom rules. 

-Show up to class with all needed materials..

-Be respectful of other people's opinions.

-Always raise your hand to talk..

-Listen to others when they are speaking..

-Clean up after yourself, don't leave trash laying around.

-Respect all classroom materials.

-Ask questions when you don't understand something.

-Always do the best you can..

-Respect other people's property..

-Show up to class on time..

-Always use appropriate school language.

-Speak loudly and clearly when talking to the class.

-Speak quietly when having a group conversation..

-Use hand sanitizer when you enter the classroom..

-Make sure to keep 6ft distance between yourself and other people..

Kahoot: Students will be playing a Kahoot to test their knowledge of what a primary and secondary source is.

Monday 9/14 - Thursday 9/17

 Learning Target: Students will be working to create a classroom learning community. Students will be working to get better at essential reading, writing, and analyzing skills.

QOD: How many states start with the letter A?

Circle: What is your favorite show to watch on TV?

Five Things: Individually, students will be making a list of their five least favorite foods. They will then be sharing out in groups and as a class. 

Classroom Rules: Students will be working together in small groups to come up with a list of classroom rules and expectations. We will then be making a master list as a class. 

Primary & Secondary Sources: Students will be learning about the differences between primary and secondary sources. Students will be practicing their skills by looking at different scenarios and trying to figure out which ones are primary and which ones are secondary sources. 

Exit Ticket: What is one thing you are looking forward to about this year? What is one thing you are concerned about? 


Virtual: Students who are online this period will be filling out a get to know you survey on Google Classroom.
